Process Automation
Festo Process Automation is the engineering layer tailored entirely to controlling the flow of media—such as fluids, gases, bulk solids, and viscous materials—across the full automation pyramid. While factory automation moves discrete parts, Festo’s process portfolio regulates pressure, temperature, and media flow. They provide everything from mechanical process valves to pneumatic, electric, and smart fieldbus control nodes.

1. Field Level: Mechanical Process Valves
1. Field Level: Mechanical Process Valves
Festo delivers robust media valves designed to manage demanding physical fluids, extreme operating temperatures, and sanitary requirements.
- Angle Seat Valves (VZXA & VZXF): Modular, heavy-duty stainless steel or brass valves built to handle high dynamic forces and clean or abrasive media with up to 100 million switching cycles.
2. Actuation & Control Level: Actuators, Positioners & Pilot Valves
2. Actuation & Control Level: Actuators, Positioners & Pilot Valves
To manipulate the mechanical process valves, Festo integrates specialized field units that translate pilot signals into high-torque motion.
- Quarter-Turn Actuators (DFPD & DAPS): The DFPD series uses a compact rack-and-pinion combination providing a torque range from 10 to 2,300 Nm. It is built for double- or single-acting setups and functions reliably in extreme environments from -50°C to 150°C.
- Linear Actuators (DFPI): Equipped with an integrated displacement encoder, optimized for regulating guided linear movements like knife gate valves or flue gas dampers.
- Electro-Pneumatic Positioners (CMSH & CMSX): Highly accurate closed-loop control positioners that monitor real-time flow variables and continuously adjust the process valve angle.
- NAMUR Pilot Valves (VSNC): Specialized directional spool valves that mount directly to quarter-turn actuators, featuring explosive-proof (Ex-ia, Ex-m) coils for hazardous environments.
3. Control and Operation Level: Decentralized Valving & Remote I/O
At the top of the field layer, Festo aggregates signals and fluid power into open-protocol cabinet and fieldbus control topologies.
- Modular Valve Terminals (VTUX & MPA): Multi-station manifolds designed to control rows of pilot lines concurrently, reducing localized tube runs and panel footprint.
